Good morning. How's your coffee? It's been a full week since we last touched base. Not only is it as hot as ever, but we are fully embedded in the dog days of June. What will Summer 2022 have in store? You can read my highly exaggerated local trend forecast to ponder this question. However, if you're not the conspiratorial type and are more interested in taking things week by week, you're in the right place. Here are 10 things happening across town this weekend (and some stuff happening a little bit after).

Without further ado, here are 10 things happening in San Antonio from Thursday, June 23, to Wednesday, June 29.

Thursday

Spurs Draft Party

If you're "Go Spurs Go" to your grave, head on over to Smoke for an official 2022-2023 NBA draft watch party to see who the newest members of the Spurs family will be. There will be jersey giveaways, drink tickets, a DJ, and more beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Jazz at Rathskeller

Enjoy an evening of jazz at the no-frills downtown basement bar, Rathskeller. Dan Carillo, former New York-based jazz musician and director of the Jazz Studies Program at the City College of New York, will play with his band Common Good. In his career, Carillo has played with everyone from Harry Belafonte to Dave Brubeck and moonlighted his talents in television and film soundtracks. Catch him Thursday at 8 p.m.

Friday

Dignowity Hill Pride

This weekend is filled with Pride events, one of which is happening in the trending Dignowity Hill area. Vendors featuring local artisans, music, food, and drinks will be on site at Diggie's Bar beginning at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. This event is family and pet friendly.

Sounds of the Grateful Dead at Sam's

If you missed the chance to pilgrimage to Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado to see Dead & Company earlier this month, you still have a chance to take your dead-head dad to see a cover band (Forgotten Space) at the local destination for burgers and brotherhood, Sam's Burger Joint.

Pride Block Party (and more)

The "gay strip" is closing itself to traffic this Saturday for a free Pride block party. Vendors, drag performers, and food trucks will take over the streets outside of Luther's Cafe starting at 7 p.m. Located in the heart of it all at Heat nightclub, the "official Pride after party" will kick-off at the same time with Brazilian DJ Alle Reich spinning your favorite hits. Admission will be sold at the box office the day of the event.

VFW 76 105th Birthday Bash

The oldest VFW Post in Texas is celebrating its 105th birthday. Donations for Uvalde will be exchanged for hamburger and hotdog plates. The bar will be open and running and music from the post's band will begin at "1800," or 6 p.m. for non-military types.

Local makers of cute anthropomorphic macarons Ooyoo Pan will be popping up at Bright Coffee this Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Enjoy flavors like cookie butter, pistachio, and fruity pebbles. Snap a photo and enjoy them with your coffee in-house, or grab-and-go.

Centro Family Pride with 'Queer Eye' Guest

If you're looking for a daytime Pride event to take the kids to, the 3rd Annual Centro Family Pride Day is happening this Sunday. The festivities in Madison Square Park will be lead by Angel Flores, who was raised in San Antonio and was featured in the second episode of the sixth season of Queer Eye. Catch drag performers, food, and drinks (from Philly Cheese steaks to lemonade) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Cinema Tuesdays

As part of Texas Public Radio's Cinema Tuesdays series, a screening of Lawrence of Arabia will be shown. Watch it at the Santikos Northwest Theater at 7:30 p.m.
