West Texas area named 'most beautiful place' in TX. No, it isn't Big Bend

A new report from Travel +Leisure listed the "most beautiful place" in each state across the nation. A West Texas site claimed the title in the Lone Star State.

In Texas, the Guadalupe Mountains were listed as the most beautiful place in the Lone Star State. The West Texas mountains are the "exposed tips" of the Captain Reef, one of the most preserved ancient reefs in the world, the report states.

Located in the Chihuahuan Desert, the area offers nature walks and opportunities for hikers to gaze at the Texas sky at the highest altitude the Lone Star State can offer as the highest point in Texas is also located in the Guadalupe Mountains. The location is known as Guadalupe Peak and is also commonly referred to as the "Top of Texas."

So, what are the most beautiful areas in the neighboring states of Texas? 

Oklahoma's Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve was named the Sooner State's most beautiful site. The area is the largest sweep of tallgrass prairie in the country and worldwide, the report states.

In the Centennial State, the Garden of the Gods sandstone formations in Colorado sprigs made the list. In Louisiana, the Wild Azalea Trail was listed as the state's most beautiful location, with the report highlighting the area's "peaceful scenery" of pine trees. clear creeks, rolling hills and wild horses.

In New Mexico, the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness was described as a "sci-fi, fantasy-like display of pinnacles, spires, and other weirdly wonderful bodies of weathered rock."
